Thanks to funding from Derry & Strabane PCSP, Melmount Community Forum has been able to purchase equipment to support the establishment of a new Volunteer Safety Warden Scheme within Strabane and associated areas. The scheme engages with the community and helps to deter those partaking in anti-social and high-risk behaviour and signpost them to available and relevant services. In addition to radios, chargers and body worn videos, the PCSP’s involvement also allowed invaluable engagement with PSNI Neighbourhood Officers, PCSP Community Safety Wardens and Foyle Search and Rescue, ensuring best practices and dissemination of shared experiences. The Volunteer Safety Warden Scheme will carry out weekend patrols over a 12-month period in areas identified as high problem hotspots.
