Villages in Antrim & Newtownabbey District are on a drive to increase Road Safety awareness after it was identified as a high concern in their village development plans.
In response to that and as part of its own action plan, Antrim & Newtownabbey PCSP, working with several groups including the PSNI, the local council and the Department for Infrastructure, have launched a new Community Speed Watch project across villages in the district.
Twelve devices which monitor real-time speeds and vehicle numbers have been placed across the area.
They then store data that can be used to measure speeding, traffic levels and any positive effects which come from the project.
PCSP Chair Cllr Paul Dunlop said: “Speeding is one of the main causation factors of death and serious injury on our roads and motorists need to be aware of the devastating consequences of road traffic collisions.
This is a real, positive example of a local solution delivered by local people.”
